In this study, the selection of the design parameters of the round bowtie antenna in the 5 GHz band for wireless local area networks (WLAN) applications is presented as a multi-dimensional and multi-purpose design optimization problem with competitive evolutionary algorithms. To overcome this challenging design optimization, the antenna optimization process was competitively compared using new fast and powerful optimization algorithms, firefly, differential evolution, and cuckoo search. The return loss (S11) value at the 5 GHz resonance frequency point designed with the proposed antenna design firefly algorithm was found to be - 56.31 dB. As a result, the proposed design optimization processes are an efficient, fast and reliable solution for all antenna design problems.
